Stitch: That was all too close to the truth. Why do these people spend thousands of $$$ on huge turntables and dedicated CD transports while at the same time trying to force meaningful sound out of a single Fostex or Lowther or other ricepaper driver...

I saw Kojo Technology is looking for an engineer relating to audio power regeneration:http://kojo-seiko.co.jp/recruit.htmlRun the posting through google translate if you are interest in job and don't understand Japanese. I own some Kojo stuff but don...

Hi,I was really just wondering whether effectively almost doubling the rotating mass made any audible difference to the presentation. From your experience, it would seem not which suggests that the kinetic energy stored by one SX8000 platter is ...

I remembered reading this buried deep on the Lavry forum:http://www.lavryengineering.com/forum_images/clocks1.pdfI also remember reading either on the dCS site or in the Stereophile review that the Verona clock was a later addition to the s...

I listened to the disc and it sounded harsh and mechanically. I beleive this is not due to the technology being used but this is a mastering problem like the most of japanese CDs, no matter how-much-bit-mastering technique applied....

I asked my Japanese speaking friend to translate for me the information about the tweeter in that Brazilian installation. It is JBL UT-045Be, I never have seen/heard it, and so I presume many others… 25mm beryllium spherical diaphragm, 52mm circ...
Yes, I noticed midway through the movie that they were not time aligning the drivers but it was to late to rename the topic (should have watched it all the way through before posting).I wonder if the large majority of these japanes...

Hi Roman! So, an SG-37FRP finally dropped on yr. laps;-) - glad it happened: not because you're now part of an Olympus-like lobby, but because you'll be able to judge with yr. own ears, much, MUCH better than theorically speculating on this or that......

There was a Japanese company called Melco who did some experimentation with platter mass back in the 70's. I seem to recall that they felt 30Kg was where it stopped making a difference. The greek ACA president with his flywheel assis...
This is one of my favorite topics.
I completly share this sentiment. There is clearly nothing nearly as important as the listening room itself and having the possibility of building a listening room from scratch is ...

Jarek, my CDs (2 in the box) did not come from Japan, and no Japanese characters on the box, just the RCA "wax seal" in the upper left front corner and the bottom right rear corner of the case, also the BMG logo on the back. The sound is "different" ...

it is worth reiterating in this thread -- and perhaps Romy should update his advice in the relevant section -- that exotic japanese teflon sockets such as the one made by yamamoto soundcraft are no good for the 6c33c, whether because of insufficient ...

Romy's prediction of field-coil speakers as the next move for the industry may already have started in small segment in Japanese market. There's Feastrex and Shindo, then G.I.P Laboratry who specializes in W.E. clones and seems to be gaining a ...

N-set. I am sorry to hear that you have in any way been itouched by the greedy, filthy, heartless assholes who keep coming up with justifications for wars. May thay live forever where everyone is exactly like they are.
As for the SUT, this seems l...

I'm wondering if the current 901mkII holds the candle? (...which would be against the industry practice, but...)It can be gotten for $1500 in some japanese online shops, but there does not seem to be much feedback around.Cheers,N-set...

Well, an informed source (a Japanese journalist) told me that the TT is designed by orignail MicroSeiki owner. My guess is that Stella Inc, which is a distribution company, financed production.A little video is here http://hifiblog.livejournal.com/39...

tried with everything back reassembled (enclosed w/ copper shielding and such)...still a hum. Both MC and MM, slightly less on both when put in a lifted-ground japanese plug. Possibly relevant, there also seems to be a secondary noise, more of an osc...

well, i believe that the popularity of the better fostex tweeters comes from their typical, off-shelf sound which is soft and easy on ear in comparison with super-resolunt Ti or Be diaphragm equipped competition. they very much suit any sharpness com...
Audio Note has released a turntable called the Ginga which costs 60 thousand US dollars in Japan. (if you google Audio Note Ginga images you will find it very easily). My first reaction was pure cynicism, as Audio Note doe...

Japanese are very strange people and fortunately sometimes this strangeness manifest itself in very cool way. For years I fish in Japan for some interesting recordings. Sometimes the Japanese folks release something that is not available anywhere els...

I was slowly looking for a compression driver that would go in my Fundamental Chanel down to 200Hz. The YL Acoustic 550N attracted my attention. Then I realized that it is the narrow throat type of the drivers, aka WE555, not exactly that I would...
Absolutely inadequate for desiphering the subjective sound quality yes - all we can deduce is that the system has a maximum sensitivity of 98db/w at best, and quite possibly less. As do many fine loudspeaker systems.

Scot, I disagree with your comment about TH have “relatively small mouth compared with a traditional horn”. It is not about the mouth size – you can’t compare two very different topologies directly only on the merit of mouth. I very much like you ske...

They weren't 'selling' anything. You could ask about the Japanese GIP reproduction drivers or pick up a leaflet but no one actually mentioned them. The owner of Silbatone has another business making & selling cars. I don't think he's under any pr...

I suppose I have "learned a lot about drivers" and speakers over the years, but age has overtaken my production capabilities, and I am selling my stash of drivers. Included for sale is the Holy Grail of lower mid-range drivers, a particular variant o...

Romy, does this mean you got your tweaked Bidat back from John? I already posted about the most recent changes John made to my idat, and I mentioned in the course of that exposition that I would be open to trying some other cable.I am still using t...
I keep bugging Yoshi, he is in Japan now, to bring me a set of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 by Takashi Asahina with Tokyo SO from 90s it should be very interesting… The damn Japanese have quite a price tag on the Asahina’s Buckner…&...

I’m very little true familiar with Asahina. I have few of his recording, Japan-pressed but the all from 90s and end of 80s. I generally do not like those performances and I do not like the orchestra. I read a few months ago in the Takashi’s forum tha...

say how much the old man is involved in all this cult and noise around him? I've also read all the poetic stuff on the site and can't say that this mystical aproach is not appealing. I had the impression that Sakuma just entertains himself makin...
